Roots, Reunion & Beyond

A sensitive and compassionate talk between two adoptees that aims to support others.

Hear Zara Phillips, author and adoptee activist, who has reunited with both sides of her birth family and Chanice, a student who recently started her reunion journey, talk about their experiences.

This 1 hour talk will cover their own incredible stories of reunion as well as;

  • How to prepare for a reunion
  • Ancestral DNA – be prepared
  • What you need to know about having two sets of parents
  • Expectations meet reality
  • How do you connect when you can’t be in reunion
  • What do you do when your birth parent or other family members can’t/don’t want to connect?
  • What we wished we had known before we searched
  • Why the next stage of grief starts in reunion and how to manage that
  • Notes for adoptive parents – reunion nearly always strengthens our bonds, not weakens them

Following the talk, there will be an opportunity for Q & As for 1 hour.
