Talking About Suicide: Ten Tools

An online webinar created and hosted by START THE CONVERSATION and Olly’s Future.

In 90 minutes gain 10 tools and the confidence to start a conversation with someone you’re worried about. You could save their life.

Join us on Zoom for 90 minutes, and come away with 10 practical tools to give you confidence to help someone you are worried about, who might be thinking of suicide.

This training was created by specialists and is delivered live, safely and sensitively. Every consideration has been given to ensure the practical and emotional safety of our attendees.

This training is especially important right now because of the unknown impact of Covid-19 on our collective and individual mental health.Talking about suicide is the best form of prevention we have – but fears get in the way of us starting a conversation:

  • “What if I say the wrong thing?”
  • “What if I make things worse?”
  • “What if I ask about suicide and put the idea in their head?”

On this training you’ll learn to put these misconceptions aside and talk about suicide with confidence. This is important because:

  • Around 1 in 20 people are thinking of suicide at any time. (Samaritans)
  • 72% of people who died by suicide had no contact with a health professional in the year before their death. (Mental Health Foundation)
  • The emotional impact on those left behind – people bereaved by suicide are 65% more likely to attempt suicide themselves than if their loved on died by natural causes. (SASP 2019)

This session has a value of £35 per person. If you are able pay the full fee, your support for OLLIE would be hugely appreciated. There are other donation options available.
