What about me?

Supporting someone who feels suicidal can be emotionally and mentally draining. You may feel confused or angry and have lots of questions that can’t be answered, and of course you will be deeply worried. To be able to look after someone else, you must be sure to look after yourself too.

How you look after yourself will be personal to you. Everyone is different and what helps one person may not help another. The most important thing is that you take some time out for yourself to practice self-care and to process. Check out our Help and Advice section for more advice on how you might do this and please note that you may need to talk to a professional to debrief – if that’s useful then make sure you give yourself that time.
