Keeping Safe and Carrying On

Experience a 90-minute journey exploring the intricate workings of your innate survival system. Uncover how this 24/7 safety feature can become stuck in ‘battle’ mode causing you to feel anything but safe.

Presented by expert trainers in neuroscience or psychology, emotional well-being and, or trauma informed responses.

Talk explores:

  • the awe-inspiring 24/7 survival system that operates within each of us and how it responds to both real and perceived threats

  • the fascinating interplay between our thoughts and our survival system and the question of which came first, our feelings or our thoughts?

  • how that interplay can create a constant perception of threat, leaving our body in a continuous state of battle preparedness – which can lead to stress and anxiety

  • how a physical and emotional chain reaction, created by hormones, and activated by our interpretation of our thoughts, can quickly leave us as emotional and physical Jenga towers, teetering on the verge of collapse.

Delegates will:

  • leave this session with a deeper understanding of their innate survival and psychological systems

  • gain a greater insight into the activation of the stress response system and how it unfolds into a cascade of physical and cognitive reactions

  • leave with a range of practical tools and strategies to soothe moments of overwhelm, stress, and negative thoughts

  • feel equipped to return to a more neutral state, even when faced with challenging situations.

We value and appreciate our incredibly diverse audiences who always come with a range of opinions, emotions, experiences and knowledge. To ensure that our online environment remains supportive, we work hard to provide a respectful environment, sensitive to the range of views in the room.

Here at OLLIE, we understand that sometimes you may prefer to join our session anonymously and that’s fine by us. You are more than welcome to have your camera off and audio muted throughout, freeing you up to move around, eat or simply relax whilst we guide you through the session.

If you book a ticket and then are unexpectedly unable to attend this event, even at the very last minute, please do let us know before the session, either by returning to the eventbrite link in your confirmation email or by emailing

Please be aware, we require a minimum number of delegates for each of our online sessions in order to run these effectively, if we are unable to obtain the minimum number 24 hours prior, you may be informed of the course’s postponement and will be given the option to transfer onto the next available course.

I feel more confident about taking a step back when it gets too much and knowing it’s ok to do so. I will be less hesitant to practise strategies to help lessen anxiety and help organise my thoughts and feelings.
An effective and empowering fusion of the neuroscience of emotion, cognitive behavioural skills and practical philosophy that strengthen our staff’s understanding of their own mental resilience – empowering them to be in control of their here and now.
Brilliant trainers but also really good value for money. So far, I’ve not found a better training organisation for mental health and suicide prevention.
