ASIST

ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) provides an immersive 2 day in-person experience. It’s meticulously designed to equip you with the necessary skills, knowledge and insights to help support individuals who may be vulnerable to suicidal thoughts or behaviours and signpost them towards appropriate support.

ASIST - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

Talk explores:

  • the suicide statistics in the UK, offering insights into the prevalence of suicide today

  • film of real-life scenarios in which doctors, police and social workers share experiences of suicide crisis situations, illustrating the challenges faced by professionals in the field

  • the possible signs, signals, or invitations that may indicate that an individual is at risk of suicide
  • how to effectively steer individuals towards networks of support, services and resources to ensure they stay safe for now until they can receive professional help

  • roleplay exercises to allow delegates to participate and practise the Pathway technique, guiding individuals at risk from crisis to safety.

Delegates will:

  • leave with enhanced understanding of prevention and intervention and deepened compassion for the complexities of suicide

  • understand the Pathway for Assisting Life or PAL as an intervention model
  • gain confidence to directly voice concerns about suicide, practice active listening and guide an individual in crisis towards safety.

Housekeeping:

Whilst every effort will be made to discuss these topics sensitively and ethically, the subject matter could potentially cause distress. Please consider if you currently feel ready to attend this training. By attending ASIST, you agree that you understand that this is a training (not therapy) and you feel ready to learn more.

We value and appreciate our incredibly diverse audiences who always come with a range of opinions, emotions, experiences and knowledge. To ensure that our environment remains supportive, we work hard to provide a respectful environment, sensitive to the range of views in the room.

If you book a ticket and then are unexpectedly unable to attend this event, even at the very last minute, please do let us know before the session, either by returning to the eventbrite link in your confirmation email or by emailing contactus@theolliefoundation.org.

Please be aware, we require a minimum number of delegates for each of our ASIST training sessions in order to run these effectively. If we are unable to obtain the minimum number 48 hours prior, you may be informed of the course’s postponement and will be given the option to transfer onto the next available course.
